A Step by Step guide for young people to set their goals

We all by now have heard the word goal(s), either in a football match or even in real life, such as career goals, short and long-term goals. For example, in a football match, every team comes with the goal/target of winning the game, and every player knows what they need to do towards achieving it. In the process, we witness tremendous hard work, disappointments, resilience, celebration, teamwork, obstacles, and above all the ultimate feeling of fulfilment when one team achieves the GOAL (Win)!

Everything we achieve, we first set our minds and work towards achieving it. Franklin Covey, the author of The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, mentions, to Begin with, the End in Mind (Habit 2) – when we know what we want and when we want to achieve it. We define the actionable steps we need to take to reach our goal. If we only focus on goals and do nothing, then we run the risk of not achieving them; because goals remain wishes without actions. Many young people know what goals are and their significance. However, the process of how they should /can set
their own goals has not been fully explained to young people.

With the inspiration from the TedTalk,” If you want to achieve your goals, don’t focus on them” by Reggie Rivers at TEDxCrestmoorParkED. We developed a simple step-by-step activity to help you teach this complex subject to your young ones and the process. This process is to remind and enable you to sharpen your skills too.
