Our Purpose

In Uganda, many young people from underserved communities face psychosocial challenges such as isolation, trauma, low self-esteem, and negative self-perception. These stem from the economic hardships, weak social support networks and exposure to violence and abuse, which affect their educational and overall life outcomes.

Uganda has the second World’s youngest population; half of its 46 million people are under 15 years old. Sadly, 22.7% of children experience serious emotional distress (UNICEF 2021). Also, Uganda ranks among the top six countries in Africa with high rates of depression and the one with the highest school dropout rates in East Africa. This is where we come in.

Our Priorities

1. Community Center

At our community art center, the Theatre of Dreams in Masanafu–Bukulugi, we provide a vibrant space where young people come together to create, learn, and grow. The center opens doors for those at the margins to access life-changing opportunities through art and mentorship. It is a safe, reflective environment where participants engage in deep check-ins, visualization exercises, and peer learning, building personal resilience, connection, and professional ambition.

2. Outreach

Through our network of trained educators, including teachers, volunteers, social workers, and teaching artists, we reach vulnerable communities with meaningful art-based learning experiences. By empowering educators to integrate arts education both inside and outside the classroom, we help young people build confidence, creativity, and resilience. This approach allows us to reach last-mile schools and underserved communities across Uganda, ensuring that every young person has access to the mentorship, resources, and opportunities they need to heal, grow, and thrive.

3. Collaborations

Over the years, we've seen firsthand how arts education can profoundly transform young lives. We're dedicated to working with other community based organizations, by training their staff and educators in our art as therapy model, which they incorporate into their work. Fostering collaboration, knowledge exchange thus scale the impact of arts education. Our mission is simple: to provide every young person with the chance to experience the life-changing power of artistic expression, unlocking their potential and paving the way for a brighter future.

Transformative Power Of Arts Education

Development

Creative expression supports cognitive and fine motor skills development, which is essential for the healthy development among children and young people.

Trauma

Engaging in arts and crafts within a safe and supportive environment helps young people to process their stress and heal from traumatic life experiences.

For fun

The beauty of art is that it has no boundaries or barriers; it’s a universal language that excites and liberates children and young people. Art creation brings joy to artists as well as viewers.
